Cortney, the Marine

We had to run to Ohio this weekend to visit with my niece, Cortney, who just graduated from Marine Boot Camp.

Yummy.
She is so going to kill me...

We're very proud (and a little scared) of Cortney! She's tough and buff and looking really good - you should see her in her dress blues! And she will kill me if she ever sees this, it's what she's been trained to do.

Way to go, Cort!

With her Marine Corps training she could probably give you three fatal blows before your body hits the ground. OOOOOOOORAH!!Way to go Courtny!!

Congrats! Another Marine is what America needs.

Let me introduce you to one of the Corps most recognized modern heroes: Nick "Gunny Pop" Popaditch, author of Once a Marine (www.onceamarine.com).

I had the pleasure of meeting Gunny Pop at a Borders book signing. He is indeed a giant--quiet, humble, smiling, and by the way--almost completely blind. His left eye only has 8 percent vision (it was blown into his sinus cavity and his other was blown out). There is footage of his wounding on his website.

Gunny Pop was on Fox News Channel (Red Eye late show) last Thursday. You can watch the clip here: http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/21814156/once_a_marine.htm#q=red+eye

I recommend his book highly. Buy it as a gift. Buy 10 as gifts. It is uplifting, and a study in character and dignity. It will also be on the Commandant's Reading List very soon (I heard).

Semper Fi, Gunny and Cortney. God bless you both.

Way to go Cortney, I am always so grateful to anyone who steps up to defend our country!! God Speed.

What does Semper Fi mean actually?

And by the way - Colleen...yummy is what I would expect you to say when you see my honey in uniform - or any man in uniform in your case - but your niece? The poor thing.

She will prob. drop you when she sees this. :0) All because of that one word.

I believe Semper Fi means "Always Faithful."

And I just felt compelled to write yummy. I wish I could explain it but I can't.

The few, the proud, the marines! Way to go Courtney. It takes one special chick to learn to kick **s as a marine. My dad, I am sure is especially proud of you, but so are we.

-Kellie, Colleen's sister

p.s. Drop her if you want too, I can't believe her captions!

BTW, Courtneys is probably the MOST beautiful marine I've ever seen!

One more thing... Once upon a time, I thought my sister Shannon (ARMY) was tough as nails, and cut...

It's time to pass the torch on to Courtney!
