Out With the Trash

When Riley first started taking his lunch to school, he kept bringing his half eaten food back home. The crust from his sandwich? Bring it home! Banana peel? Bring it home! Empty milk carton? Bring it home! It seemed like it took him forever to understand that I didn't want to see his table scraps.

Now Shannon is taking his lunch to school, and he has yet to bring me home any remnants of his lunch! Of course, yesterday he failed to bring home his spoon, and today I found his tupperware lid, but no actual container. When questioned about the missing tupperware, he said, "I didn't mean to throw it away, but then it was too late!" I'm just hoping Shannon learns proper lunch disposal quickly or I'll go broke restocking my kitchen supplies.

Plastic spoons and used butter dishes. Try them. You won't feel bad if they don't come home and you won't go broke......

I think you were brave to send real spoons and non-throw away tupperware with him to school. I still only send plastic spoons with Allyson, unless I run out like this morning and had to send a real spoon. Should be interesting to see if it makes it home and she's in 4th grade. I like your moms ideas. And if you don't go through butter fast enough to use that you can try buying the rewashable/throw away containers that are relatively cheap so you wont go crazy when he accidentally throws it away, but if he does remember to keep it you can rewash and reuse.
There's my 2 cents.

I just can't seem to fit a peanut butter and jelly sandwich into a butter container! Dang. ;) (They get squished in a baggie.) I DO usually use plastic spoons, but forgot to stock up for this school year.

Heather, if you give me your two cents on a daily basis, we'll be even on the TV in no time. Then you'll no longer have to 'borrow' it.

By the way, today NOTHING came back in his lunchbox. Maybe tomorrow he'll just toss the lunchbox in the garbage, too?

I was afraid of that too. But Griffin was more like Riley - must be a first born thing?

He brought home his pudding cup one day - only half eaten. (you can't reseal those) sooooo, his lunchbox (cloth) and his back pack and all of his papers were covered in pudding. We had a talk about what to keep after that!!

I don't need to send utensils with him. I sent a plastic one and he came home and said he didn't need it - they supply them with silverware and straws at school. (napkins too) lucky me.

I have been using the glad/ziploc reusable square containers for Griffin's PBJ's (like Heather mentioned) and I wrote his name on it and told him to bring home the item only if it had his name on it. :0)

That's my 2 cents worth. :0)

I use plastic utensils for me!

Isn't it funny how two kids with the same parents can be so different? I am amazed at the different personalities!

How does Corey do with lunch? Does he eat at school? Or is he only on partial days?

Corey is doing school just 1/2 days, so we sit at the table (forever) while he eats lunch.

I pretty much have to eat with him (not hungry yet, therefore I'm gonna get even bigger...) every day or he wont eat at all.
